The assignment was to create an experience where the ‘guest’ who enters the world doesn’t perceive it as a game. The main objective was to exercise ‘indirect control’, where the guest feels they have agency, but you can predict with great accuracy what they are going to do. I will write tomorrow whether our test guests actually did the 3 things that we predicted…

P.S. I know that the shadows are ‘wrong’. We were using the shadows as channels to direct attention where we wanted it, so we weren’t going for realism.

A Movie of the Magic Pudding

Here’s the Magic Pudding movie file (6.5 Megabytes) that shows you the basic experience of the first collaborative project I worked on at the ETC. It’s a split-screen that shows what each player sees, on the left is the wombat and on the right, the koala. It runs through what happens when you don’t share, and when you share.

Enjoy!

A Rough City

So in the last 4 days, there was a stabbing at a bus stop on our street a block and a half away from our school, and one of our students was jumped (and fought back) while escorting another female student home.I’m told by the Australians at the local pub that these behaviors are not coming from Aussies. Hopefully not. And hopefully statistically we’ll have no more trouble for the rest of the semester, considering how much has gone on in the last couple of days!
